The following paragraphs have been cut and pasted from what is being put up today 2nd December 2020 on various website sources which confirms that we are good to go on Sunday 6th December 2020 with a club ride.
You can find ride invitations that are already up on the forum so hopefully we will enjoy being out again in groups. We need to be mindful that the government is intending to review the Tier format and classification on a fortnightly basis so we must be prepared to adapt our arrangements at short notice going forward into 2021.
Firstly up is the Government website updated 30 November 2020 which states
Local restriction tiers: what you need to know.
Sets out the local restriction tier system that will be in place from Wednesday 2 December, including what you can and cannot do in each tier.
Tier 2: High alert
This is for areas with a high or rapidly rising level of infections, where some additional restrictions need to be in place.
In Tier 2:
You must not socialise with anyone you do not live with or who is not in your support bubble in any indoor setting, whether at home or in a public place
you must not socialise in a group of more than 6 people outside, including in a garden or public space - this is called the 'rule of 6'
Secondly there is Cycling UK which states the following regarding groups of six, although they do make reference to a further update of their advice pending the parliamentary debate on the new regulations on 16 December 2020
*** This is a live document and was last updated Tuesday 1 December to reflect the new tier system in England from 2 December.
Note that it is not possible to cover every local variation across the UK here, and you should always follow local restrictions where these are imposed. ***
Cycling UK’s advice below is aimed at member and affiliated groups. For advice on safe and responsible riding outside of organised groups see our coronavirus Q&A page.
Localised lockdowns and restrictions
If your area is under a full local lockdown, we advise that all group activities cease until restrictions are lifted. However, a number of areas are currently experiencing additional restrictions in response to local outbreaks which you can view here.
Unless it specifically states otherwise on the gov.uk website and/or your local relevant council website, Cycling UK is supporting local group rides to continue but you must still follow relevant rules on group size and social distancing.
This page will be updated once the new regulations have been published, and debated in parliament on 16 December.
The government’s intention is to establish a tier system across England. You can find out on the government website which areas are in Tier 1 (medium alert), Tier 2 (high), and Tier 3 (very high).
Different rules apply in each tier, however in all three tiers the guidance states that you must not socialise in a group of more than six people outside – the ‘rule of six’. This would allow group rides of up to six people in all three tiers.
Hopefully, this makes our club position clear but please feel free to ask questions and I will do my best to respond accurately and in good faith.
