Showing:Boltons Bench, Lyndhurst

Boltons Bench, Lyndhurst Sunday 5th September 2010 ()
We haven't ridden from here for years. If the first car park is full up, there is another one a few metres along the access track and if that one is full, there is yet another one out by the little cemetery near the cricket square. There shouldn't be too many tourists at this time of year and certainly not at our starting time, From here the obvious route is out towards Matley, Denny Wood and Woodfidley with maybe a loop out to Diltons Farm, Roydon Manor and Brockenhurst Park before swinging north through Hollands Wood towards Lyndhurst. The other not so obvious route would lead out through Bank towards the Reptillary and onwards to the Portuguese Fireplace and Millyford Bridge.

Post-ride pub: Mailman's Arms (next to the Ferrari garage)

Isle of Wight full day ride Sunday 19th September 2010 ()All day ride Out of forest
This will be a day ride meeting at the Lymington ferry terminal and starting on the Island at Yarmouth. We can't guarantee that it won't rain but we can guarantee that it will be a fun day out. Whatever happens, the choice of riding is excellent, the views from the ridges are stunning and the pubs are friendly and welcoming. Remember to bring loads of money for the ferry, the pub, the catering facilities on the ferry and most importantly, a selection of coinage to feed the meter at the car park exit barrier or your visit to Lymington could be longer than you planned.

TIMINGS AND OTHER DETAILS TO BE ANNOUNCED

Hatchet Pond Sunday 3rd October 2010 ()
This is Hatchet Pond itself, not the model aircraft car park. This location can take us around the perimeter track of the old airfield, perhaps avoiding Diltons Farm in one direction. There is a loop via Beaulieu around the fringes of Langley, Blackfield, Holbury and Hardley before turning southwards and heading back towards Hatchet Moor or if neither of those routes takes your fancy, there's always Hawkhill, Ladycross, Woodfidley and Denny Lodge on the north side of the B3055 road (the road between Beaulieu and Brockenhurst).

Post-ride pub: The Montague Arms in the centre of Beaulieu

Badbury Rings near Blandford Sunday 17th October 2010 ()
This is a new starting point for the club but is easily accessible just beyond Wimborne Minster. There are some terrific tracks around Witchampton, The Crichels, Tarrant Monkton and Tarrant Rushton. This will be a regular half day ride and there are several opportunities to add in or take away loops however we wish on the day.

Post-ride pub: Pub in Shapwick ST 938 017 , can't remember the name of it.

Cheesefoot Head near Winchester Sunday 31st October 2010 ()Out of forest
This ride will start at the high point and could swoop down southwards to Twyford and Owslebury before turning north eastwards to Cheriton after 17 miles or so. The return for this loop could be via Bramdean, Alresford, the Oxdrove towards Dummer and then south through Itchen Abbas and Avington to climb back up to Cheesefoot Head. Other routes are available in almost every direction, so if none of that appeals we could try the alternatives. Choices exist for sub-20, mid-20 or high-20's mileage depending on fitness, enthusiasm and the depth of mud.

Post-ride pub: The Black Horse in Easton village

Bolderwood Sunday 14th November 2010 ()
This ride starts from the car park by the deer sanctuary just across the road from the Canadian Memorial. This can be reached either by coming across Ocknell Plain from Stoney Cross towards Milkham Inclosure and turning left to take the road down under the A31 dual carriageway or by coming through Lyndhurst turning towards Emery Down and then branching left at the New Forest Inn to pass the Portuguese Fireplace before finding the car park after another two miles. From this start point, we can ride down through Millyford Bridge, pick up on the Reptillary and carry on to Rhinefield or we can scoot downhill towards Burley. Either direction could lead us eventually to the old railway line skirting round the back of Wilverley Inclosure. Another route might take us back under the A31 and into Milkham Inclosure, Holly Hatch Inclosure, Kings Garn Gutter, Minstead and so on.

Selborne half day Sunday 28th November 2010 ()Out of forest
In the middle of the village, on the left when approaching from the south, there is a pub called the Selborne Arms on the main road (B3066), and behind the pub is a public car park. We rode from here in May 2008 and again in May 2009, so here we are again to try the muddy season for some tough climbs around the chalk hangers of this geological curiosity. No doubt we shall make use of the pub again on this visit.

James Hill car park, near the New Forest Inn, Emery Down (ref SU 282 083) Sunday 12th December 2010 ()
The best start point is the car park at James Hill just a short walk to the pub at the end of the ride. There is an overflow car park just a bit farther away at White Moor at ref SU 275 079 about 0.25 mile along the road from the pub in the direction of the Portuguese Fireplace. Starting from here we have a choice of the Reptilliary, Rhinefield, Bolderwood, Burley, Minstead and so on; all good stuff and just right for working up an appetite for when we have a spot of lunch at the pub afterwards as our pre-Christmas gathering.

Post-ride pub: The New Forest Inn, Emery Down - Christmas lunch. (Pub @ SU 286 084)

Boxing Day ride from Garnier Road Park & Ride Sunday 26th December 2010 ()Out of forest
When we rode from here in October 2006 and again in March 2009 the routes we took were southwards along the Itchen Navigation where it passes St Catherine's Hill before turning eastwards up Plague Pits Valley, then onwards along the Dongas tracks for Hazeley Down, Morestead, and Cheesefoot Head and the South Downs Way, Milbury's Inn and the general area near Cheriton. Probably, we will do pretty much the same today but nothing too strenuous, just a chance to ride off the Christmas excesses before topping up again at the pub.

Post-ride pub: The Queen Inn, Kingsgate Road

Key:

Out of forest - expect more hills. All day ride - with pub lunch, but caution beginners as these rides are long!
