Charlie's SDW ride

Post by sambath » Tue Aug 07, 2018 1:47 pm

Well the time is almost here for the SDW over 2 days in aid of Charlie's beach hut
From my first post back in chilly January seems a long time ago.
A lot of planning done, many miles ridden, lots of emails sent and received.
The weather looks like it could be on the change just to add to the challenge (not so hot though 8) )

Looking forward to a great weekend with some great company and fantastic views

Thank you to all riders and support crew just a matter of pushing those pedals and keep moving and remember to smile for the photos.

We will be departing from Winchester at 9.00am if any members wish to see us off, and to give support at various stages along the route you would be very welcome.

Steve

Yes a great weekend - thank you Steve, Lisa, Gerry, Clive and Clive's daughter whose chocolate chip biscuits got me through the low of the second day lunch stop and all the big Eastbourne hills to be climbed..... and Rob's children (who ate the biscuits I did not...)

Medium group approx. Stats
Day 1 9.am to 4.15pm 47miles 1500m climbing
Day 2 9.am to 6pm 52miles 2000m climbing

Just a few spots of rain, ideal riding temps, loads of great food, no mechanicals except Alan's broken section of his rear cassette (which his bike came with!) and a need to put some air in a tubeless tyre, some great ups and very fast downs 33mph down Butser Hill and I'm sure others went faster.... and great company too

Fish and chips and for a very select few a sea swim at the end...... (Susie and Steve)

Well, that was an EPIC weekend.

Many many congratulations to Steve, what a storming success it was.

A huge thank you to Steve and Lisa and Gerry and Rob and Clive and Meg and Paul for making our task (as riders) so much more enjoyable. I've done the SDW before, self-supported, but doing it with support and with someone else doing the organising was soooo much better!! Thank you, your efforts were very much appreciated.

Raising money for Charlie's Beach Hut was the icing on the cake. I'm so glad to have been involved and given a little bit to this very worthy cause.

Well done everyone who took part and everyone who was involved in any way.

Now we just need someone to offer to do a write-up for the club magazine.....

Pen x

One of the best weekends of not-riding ever.

(I did sneak in a sea dip when you weren't looking!)

Thank you for your kind comments
I am really pleased, relieved and less stressed now it's complete
For me it was emotional when we started and while riding into Eastbourne at the finish. :D

Amazing epic weekend on and off the bike so nice to do it with a great friendly group.

The support crew worked hard Lisa didn't get the sit down and relax between stops i might of led her to believe, we are both fairly tired today.
The van clocked up 260 miles over the weekend.

We will put a write up together for the mag.

Running total of amount raised is £2224.50 with still some to collect amazing amount so grateful for all the support

Comments from Charlie's parents on Facebook throughout the weekend: -
"Superb effort - thank you so so much for everyone’s support and for all you fundraising efforts. A hot bath is well overdue guys - excellent effort - well done. Xx"
"Absolutely incredible. Well done everyone and thank you, thank you, thank you! X"
"Wahoooooo! Hot baths all round!! Amazing achievement. Thank you all so much x"

Thank you riders and support crew for great weekend

I wonder what will be the next adventure ? thinking already started !!

A bit late but what a fabulously run weekend.

Steve & Lisa's planning and organisation couldn't be faulted. Thanks to all the cheerful and enthusiastic back up crew.
A big thank you to my co-riders who held gates open and waited patiently for my arrival.
It was all super dooper
