September 2010 North Wales weekend 30/01/10

Continuing the theme of the last 4 years (SDW / Dartmoor+Exmoor / Grampian Way / Peak District) we intend a "Medium Group" three / four day point to point style trip across the Snowdonia area of North Wales - similar to the Peaks Trip in July 2009 described in Newsletter 113.

The route will be the northern part of the Sarn Helen mtb route published by Tim Woodcock (We also used his routes for Dartmoor+Exmoor and for the Peaks). We will be looking at less strenuous targets for miles and ascents than last year.

As before we will hire a mini-bus and trailer; we have the much appreciated George booked in as our dedicated driver. The plan is to leave Thursday 9th September 2010 and return during the evening of the following Sunday.

As always the cost will depend on prices of the hire vehicles & the three overnight stays . There are plenty of YHA and hostels in the area but as we have found each year it is finding suitable accommodation on the route that proves difficult so the early enquiries are essential.

Spaces for the van will be limited so please reserve now, via John Hawkins. within "contacts" or post a reply

Here is a ride review over 5 days for the whole 270 miles, which we will not do!

Play your part in the cycling revolution - help to recruit British Cycling Ride Leaders 9/06/09

Dear Partner

This summer British Cycling is teaming up with Sky to develop a new and exciting cycling programme. The aim is to get more people out on their bikes, enjoying the outdoors and experiencing the fun they can have on two wheels. To help us with this we are looking for British Cycling members and cycling enthusiasts to join us in becoming Ride Leaders.

Between July 1st and October 31st we'll be rolling out routes across London, Leicester, Manchester, Glasgow, Preston and the surrounding areas around which we will lead cyclists of varying experience. Our Ride Leaders will be there to give riders tips about cycling, help them gain confidence and generally show them how enjoyable cycling can be.

Ride Leaders could be qualified Coaches, Bikeability Instructors or members of clubs with experience of leading within the club environment. Some of the rides will also be on the public highway, so Ride Leaders should regularly ride on the road and be confident riding with traffic.

We are looking for approximately 300 people to lead these rides and play a crucial part in promoting cycling as an entertaining recreational activity. Each Ride Leader will receive a day's free training where they can be given tips and pointers to be a better Ride Leader (and to make sure their cycling skills are in tip top condition), a branded jersey and payment for each ride that they lead. If a Ride Leader is not already a British Cycling member, we will also give them a year's free Everyday Cycling membership!

It would be very much appreciated if you could help us promote this opportunity through your networks by forwarding this email to your appropriate local cycling partners and members

If you, or anyone you know, are interested just click on the link below or phone 0161 274 2063 for further details and to find out how to register to become a qualified Ride Leader as part of this exciting new initiative.

Thank you for your continued support.

Kind regards
